Such a depressing chapter. But very fascinating. So whenever I read the Book of Mormon, I'm always trying to connect it geographically.
-Just as a side note. When I was in college and studying Central American history, I learned that there is still a lot to learn and discover about Central American history because so much of it has been over grown by jungle. I remember thinking in that exact instant that it's probably that way so people have faith in the Book of Mormon, not fact.
Anyway, have you ever tried to figure out how Mormon and the Nephites went from Central America to upstate New York?
I have. Clarity came tonight when I was reading Mormon 6. As I mentioned, the chapter is terribly depressing. Ten of thousands of people die. To the point that with Mormon's group only 24 survive. This left me picture that many people lying dead. Can you imagine? What do you do with that many bodies? Then something amazing popped into my head. Something I remember learning about in 5th or 6th grade. Have you ever seen Native American burial mounds? I remember being fascinated by them when I first saw them in a social studies book.
Well tonight everything seemed to click. If your entire nation was wiped out, the best way to give them all a proper burial would be in a giant mound, right?
Amazing stuff. I'm on the iPad, so I don't know how to link pictures, but Google it!
Oh, and from my googling, I learned that most are back east. Seriously amazing.
Spiritual inspiration. Someone probably already put that all together already, but I'm just getting it. (Probably someone at FARMS. Google that too.)
