Becka put it best too when she confronted Dan by saying, "So what, God just left the shop for 30 years."
Seriously.
Anyway, I feel that the debate is pointless because the first chapter of the Bible smacks it down quite clearly.
Genesis 1:26
26 And God said, Let aus bmake cman in our dimage, after our elikeness: and let them have fdominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
This may not be news to anyone, but should you ever get in a situation where you need to explain it, that's it. Us and Our are pretty clear. How do you get around that?

Let me be the first to say that I'm really looking forward to this blog. I know I will learn a ton. You amaze me with your scripture knowledge and insights.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Melanie on this one! I don't know how to ask questions like you do, it will be great!!
ReplyDeleteI think that might be the only time I clarified a scripture issue. The issue of the Trinity is one of the most interesting to me, because it really makes one look at the history of the Bible and the way it's been translated. I've said it before, but I think the history of the Bible is really important in interpreting its verses. Translating things from Hebrew to Greek to Latin didn't really go smoothly, the alphabets don't line up, and the concepts aren't always the same. There's lots of room for errors that have produced huge divisions between Christian sects millenia later.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I don't get, is how vigorous the debates about the Godhead are. I personally think everyone has a little different conceptualization of God, and maybe it's because I'm a hippie, but I really have no problem with that. No matter how you conceptualize your God, so long as you live a moral life I think you're golden.
Sorry for the long comment, I just love your scripture blogs.
